Final Fantasy "This is the Dream of Win & Regine" - Live @ Alchemize
Yes, Alchemize is gone. But there are so many amazing things to come in the not-too-distant future that I haven't felt bad. Not even for a second.
But that's not to say Alchemize wasn't a wonderful place. If it weren't for Alchemize, I would never have been brought to near tears by a man and his violin. At the end of June, Final Fantasy came to Cincinnati and played to maybe two dozen people. It was a sad turnout, even for a Thursday night. But the meager audience did not discourage Owen. Or at least he didn't show it.
His performance of "This is the Dream of Win & Regine" was the highpoint for me. I know it's the "hit single" but it is the hit for a reason. First off, I love the way he sort of laughs to himself when he is doing the initial violin plucking loop. What does he know that I don't?! Also, there is something undeniably romantic about Owen's music. When he plays live, the imagery and the emotion are intensified even further. Watch as Owen "builds" the song from the bottom up.
Here's an mp3 of the video - This is the Dream of Win & Regine (Live - 6/29/06)
A video feature with additional live footage as well as an interview with Owen will follow in the upcoming weeks.

Pete, brilliant! I can see my flash going off constantly. This song was also a highlight for me. I look forward to seeing more....
i love it!! is his voice perfect or is it just me???
Ohhhh big thanks!! I was thwarted by travel plans from going to see FF when they came to Boston, so this is worth gold to me!
oh, what a marvelous video. thank you.
wow. his voice is so pure. and the violin is amazing. i love. awesome video pete!
How many cameras are you running? I'm afraid your're going to tell me one, and that you did all that intercutting in camera while you were shooting. In which case I might cry, and herald you as some kind of mad genius.
Gorgeous stuff, keep up the good work!
while i won't dispute said heralding...i did have three cameras running.
if you know someone who could have done it with one, i'd question whether they still have full ownership over their soul.
but thanks for the kind words! i enjoy your work over at the goodhodgkins boards!
THREE CAMERAS?!?! Damn, kid. Do you do that for every live clip? The venues let you? What about origination fees?
I'll stop harassing you now... (;
uhhh...what's an origination fee?
all the shows are set-up by my good friend, nick spencer, the owner and promoter for alchemize and he's more than okay with letting me film.
and i contact the bands ahead of time too...
did you ever see the youtube video of him and grizzly bear guy doing mariah carey? classic!
yeah! i was hoping he'd play it when i saw him but alas, he did not.
nor did he play the bloc party - this modern love cover...
i can see why he is laughing. its the violin. he is playing pretty sloppy like fun fiddle sloppy. I feel him. the violin is so fun. who doesnt love playing in their own little orchestra!
I will never get tired of watching this man play.
What i really want to see is his looping pedal action. Im really intersted in doing this kinda thing myself for fun.
I guess you only need an origination fee if you plan to make money off selling your recordings later...
It's generally what a venue charges you to film there.
Is he our Mozart? Maybe...
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP
Listen. If anyone is to be the Mozart of our time or applauded for violin looping, it should be Mr. Andrew Bird. He has much more character to his voice and songs, and is cuter too? Not that that is really important.
But it is a perk.
